Stitched Cherries

I attended the Quilt, Craft, and Sewing Festival while it was in town yesterday. It was such an inspiration to see so many amazing quilts and crafts. I wasn't allowed to take pictures, but the images of fantastic and whimsical quilt pieces and techniques is embedded in my mind. I couldn't make a decision on which quilt pattern to buy, but I did purchase some awesome wool felt project kits from the Lumenaris booth.

I started working on the Cherry Candle Mat. The kit came with pre-cut wool felt, floss, and a needle. I don't intend to use this for candles at all, but I just fell in love with the look of the scalloped edge with blanket stitches.

I started stitching in the evening, and for some reason just couldn't stop. I stitched for a few hours until I got pretty close to finishing the mat.

I woke up early this morning and felt like a kid on Christmas morning. I ran to my office/workspace and finished the mat. Before I closed up the front and back layers of the mat, I decided to add my initials.

Now I have this adorable cherry mat. I want to use it for perfume bottles on my dresser.

The other kit I purchased comes with felt and silhouettes in order to create cameos. I fully intend on turning those into brooches for my Fall cardigans.

Until next time.

Halloween Preparation.2

It is safe to say that Halloween prep is in full swing at my house. I had to take a short break from stitching and sewing because I was feeling a little under the weather, but as of yesterday, I was back on my feet putting together Halloween themed items.

I have been making felt wreaths like this for many years. I couldn't help putting one together for Halloween this year. It took me about 2 hours to make and 20 sheets each of orange and black felt. If you would like to make one of your own, please check out the tutorial I put together here

Aside from the wreath, I wanted to piece together a fabric border for my witch embroidery. I have accumulated a collection of Halloween fabric, so I added various prints to accent the embroidery.

The fabric has glitter embedded into it. Who doesn't love glitter? I know I adore it.

Now I need to decide if I should turn this into a pillow or quilt it as a wall hanging. I think it might be cool as a tote bag, too... hmm... so many choices...

Are you up to any Halloween preparation? I would love to know what you're up to!

Until next time.
